Forced Sterilizations in Peru: Women in search for Justice
In the 1990s, a national population program in Peru aimed to promote birth control and reduce poverty. However, what followed was a horrifying chapter in the country's history, with thousands of women, predominantly from indigenous communities, subjected to forced sterilizations. These women, who sought to lead normal lives, were coerced, blackmailed, and even forcibly restrained to undergo the procedure. Over two decades later, they continue to fight for justice, seeking acknowledgement, compensation, and the truth behind the atrocities committed against them.
In this video made by France 24 English you will see this terrible event in more depth and how Peruvian women continue to wait for justice for what happened.
As you see in the video, the fight
for justice and healing continues for the victims of forced sterilization in
Peru. Despite the obstacles they face, including political resistance and
social neglect, these women persevere, determined to obtain the truth,
compensation, and an apology. As their stories unfold, it is imperative for
society to acknowledge the atrocities committed against them and work towards
rectifying the injustice inflicted upon these resilient women.
